Obama wins Nobel prize

Oslo (Norway): United States President Barack Obama has been given Nobel Prize surprisingly for 2009 for his extraordinary efforts in strengthening International Diplomacy and for taking initiatives to create a nuclear free world. Announcing the award, an official of the Nobel said that Barack Obama has yet to be informed about his reward and he receives the Nobel prize on December 10th of this year. Barack Obama beats 205 other nominees for this prestigious award which includes a gold medal and 1.4 million dollars. In the past Nobel prize has been to awarded to 90 times to Nobel Laureates between 1901-2009. 97 times to the individuals and 23 times to the organizations. He (Obama) said he does not 'view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as a recognition of goals he has set for the United States and the world. Obama also said, 'I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many transformative figures that have been honoured by this prize.' Obama was the 4th US President to win the Nobel prize. The other three are
-Theodore Roosevelt (1906) 'for his successful mediation to end the Russo-Japanese war and for his interest in arbitration, having provided the Hague arbitration court with its very first case'.
-Woodrow Wilson (1919) as 'Founder of the League of Nations'.
-Jimmy Carter (2002) 'for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development'.
Roosevelt and Wilson was awarded the prize when they are in the office itself but the Carter was given Nobel prize 21 years after his demitting from the office.
